Podcast 29 – Magic with LJToyPhotography

I may be biased, but I’m thrilled for this month’s themed episode of the podcast. This was one of our best themes to date. So good in fact, that we invited a special guest onto the show to discuss it!

For the first time, we’ve invited a listener onto the show to share his own interpretation of the theme. Luke Jones, aka LJToyPhotography, has participated in nearly all of our podcast theme exercises. The minute I saw his submission for “Magic,” depicting a stage magician pulling a surprise lobster out of his hat, I knew that he had to come onto the show to discuss it.

The episode is live now, and embedded below. Make sure to scroll down to see our images as you listen, and check out our guest submissions for the month!

I get a crack out of Luke’s image every time I see it. It’s such a fun subversion of what we expect from a stage magician. According to Luke, the he only used the lobster because he doesn’t own a rabbit piece! If you ask me, I say that that particular limitation led to a fantastic image.

I wanted to lay several layers of magic into my image. Movie magic, the magic of Harry Potter, and the magic of photography. Was I successful? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below!

A queue of frogs and beautiful reflections make up Kristina’s image. She used 3 different images, shot as a panoramic, to capture it! Listen to the podcast to hear how.

Guest Submissions

Thanks to all of the listeners who submitted their own Magic images! We only had the chance to discuss three of them on the show, but recommend you check out the hashtags on Instagram and G+ to see all of the entries. Here are the photos we discussed in the episode:

Once again, thank you for all the kind comments! I can definitely see what Kristina was talking about with the grass now that it’s mentioned, though it didn’t occur to me at the time. I really really like your picture James. Mixing the different ideas of magic was a genius move. Luke’s picture is hilarious and it’s awesome to hear that I’m not the only teen in toy photography! Definitely looking forward to the next episode.
