After a busy month of podcasting, it was fun and refreshing to reunite with Kristina to discuss our latest theme, “Reflections.”
Kristina was the perfect person to discuss reflections and toy photography with. She did a whole photo project around reflections last year, and explored them with Shelly this summer. As always, she gave me much insight and I left with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the theme.
In addition to sharing our interpretations and looking at the guest submissions, we had a fun time chatting about what we’ve been up to lately with our photography and how good it feels starting and completing photo projects. We even go on a few fun tangents – like our thoughts on the Moon landing and watermarking your photos. It turned into quite the podcast episode!

These themed episodes just keep getting better and better! Once again, thank you for all the kind words about my photo! I definitely see what Kristina was saying about Sam’s eyes and I didn’t even think of that at all. I guess I was going for the moment right as he looks down. I loved the little side talk about space and it was really neat to hear what the space race was like from Sweden. I agree that the fake moon landing theory is kinda ridiculous and it also seems somewhat disrespectful to those who died in the space program. Your astronaut picture is top notch James! Kristina’s image is superb as well and I really like how it has so many layers to it, even if some people won’t see that. I’m looking forward to taking pictures for the Fear theme. It’s going to be a challenge for me because I’m not a person who goes for horror type stories/photos. Usually if there’s a scary creature/place, I want there to be a hero who’s ready to fight the fear somehow. We’ll see how it comes out!

I too am struggling a bit with the fear theme, even though I’m taking black and white horror photos for October. I love that you want to insert a hero there. And I think that could be an interesting angle! Is the hero facing his fear (therefore making him heroic)? Is he fearLESS? The possibilities are endless and I look forward to seeing your interpretation!

Million thanks for your kind words on my Catwoman picture. I’m very glad you guys like it. To have an idea of How I shot it, it is almost the same setup than the second shot of the serie I submitted. I zoomed on the mirror and tried to find an angle that, as you describe, reflected an different thing on each broken part. It was a low angle shot if I remember well.

Oooh, thanks for the insight on that image! I wondered if it was captured in-camera, or a composition of multiple images with the figure at different angles.
