It’s hard to believe that James Gibbs has only been doing toy photography since early 2018. His work has made such an impression on me that I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t seeing his clever images grace my feed.

As is the case with most podcast guests, I hadn’t spoken to Gibbo – apart from the occasional Instagram or Slack interaction – before recoding this episode. You couldn’t have guessed that listening to our conversation though. Right away we both felt a sort of kinship, and had a few surprising similar experiences and creative processes.

We had a great time chatting about Toy Story making us believe our toys truly were real, how our backgrounds in marketing may influence our toy photography, compositing and lighting tips, and much more!

Thanks a lot to Gibbo for the great conversation. I look forward to your inevitable return to the show! In the meantime you can follow Gibbo’s work on Instagram, and read his great blog posts here.
