Fighting crime is exhausting and even the most disciplined ninja needs a break.

Leonardo, the steadfast leader of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, had been feeling it for weeks. The endless patrols. The ceaseless hum of the city. The subway’s stale air. Even Splinter noticed his furrowed brow during meditation.

“You are a blade, Leonardo,” the rat master had said, “but even a blade must rest or it grows dull.”

So when Donatello mentioned an abandoned ranger cabin deep in the mountains, Leo didn’t hesitate. No tech or missions or Foot Clan, just Leo and nature. The moment he stepped out of the van and into the pines, Leo felt it. The air was alive with a pine-scented crispiness. Trees stretched skyward like skyscrapers that didn’t buzz. The silence was a welcome roar.

Then he saw a mountain bike leaning against a shed and decided to go for a ride. He wobbled at first. Balance was easy on rooftops, but on a trail lined with rocks and roots, every bump felt personal. Still, he pushed on, the wind rushing over his shell. He dodged branches, skidded around corners, and let out an involuntary whoop as he caught a little air over a small hill.

Halfway down the trail, something happened. He stopped thinking. His mind, usually full of strategy, tactics, and worry, emptied. It was just him, the trail, and the rhythm of the ride. No city noise. No duty. Just flow. Maybe Splinter was right. A blade must rest. Or better yet got for a ride in the woods. Nature wasn’t just a break. It was a reminder. Even a ninja needs to breathe.

About These TMNT Toy Photos

I captured these photos in Seabrook, Washington while on a photo job and a few in the San Juan Islands while on vacation. I captured these with the Nikon 50mm f2.8 macro, which I usually keep in my photo bag all the time since it is also a fun portrait lens. More or less I wrote the story above by dictating ideas to the notes app on my phone while capturing photos and then rewriting it a bit. Last but not least the Leo TMNT is from NECA and he is riding a YEIBOBO Alloy Mini Downhill Mountain Bike. Hope you enjoyed the photos!
