This week, we’re taking a trip to that galaxy far, far away for a special review of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker—from a toy photographer’s perspective.
The shadow of Star Wars looms large over all of pop culture, and our toy photography community is no different. Even before TRoS‘s release, photographers were creating their own stories with Rey & co., or predicting how this sequel trilogy-concluding entry into the “Skywalker Saga” would turn out.
A long time ago…
To tackle a film as big as this one, I assembled my own Jedi council of sorts. Big thanks to our very own Dave DeBaeremaeker and Oliver Peterson, and special guest Arielle Nadel for joining me! We recorded this back in January, so I’m curious if more distance from it has changed any of our opinions… With the movie now on home video, I’m excited to revisit it and find out!
In addition to reviewing the movie itself, I wanted to tackle the film’s impact on our hobby, whether it inspired us to take toy photos and, most importantly… what did we think of the tie-in toys?!
We spend the majority of the episode going deep into spoilers. You have been warned!
What did you think of the movie? How do you feel about the new characters, vehicles, planets and toys? Has this inspired you to take toy photos? Continue the conversation with us in the comments below.

Thanks for posting this, James. I enjoyed doing it and am pleased I don’t sound like a total moron (always a fear with this sort of thing!). Can’t wait to finally rewatch the movie on DVD and shoot some scenes!
