I have been taking a trip down memory lane on twitter and posting blog entries from a year ago. I ran across one from last March where we asked if anyone wanted to join us and the silence was defining. But that didn’t stop Me2 and myself.
We have grown our community one blog post and one amazing photographer at a time.
[clickToTweet tweet=”all the pieces of the puzzle are in place” quote=”With the recent additions of Balakov and Captain Kaos, I feel like all the pieces of the puzzle are in place for another amazing year.”]
Recently we have had a lot of new friends stop by the blog and I thought it might be good time to introduce who we are (at least how I see it) and our places in the creative collective that is StuckinPlastic
Me2 is one of the two founding members and our resident visionary. With one foot soundly in Big Inc and one foot in the world of photography he is the perfect person to guide this ship in a world that values business acumen above artistic creativity. He is the best of both worlds and my partner in all things plastic.
Avanaut was the first person to answer our personal request to join the blog. Lucky for us Vesa is open to new opportunities and more than up for the adventure we have taken him on. His amazing photographs inspired by the Star Wars planet Hoth have spawned legions of imitators. Although his blog posts are infrequent they shine an interesting light on the creative process; the good, the bad and the frustrating.
Balakov is our most recent addition but also the first to answer my request for a blog post for the “Why?” series. Mike has some of the most recognizable stormtrooper images on the internet. He has been taking toy photographs since the veritable dark ages of toy photography; you have probably seen his work and just didn’t realize the master behind all those wonderful images. I look forward to more posts from Mike; not only is he a wonderful writer, but an accomplished studio and outdoor toy photographer. I have much to learn from him.
Captain Kaos, is another new addition to the blog and on first glance he might seem an odd fit since his work does not usually feature LEGO. But Matt has been photographing toys for most of his life and brings a depth of knowledge and skill that only taking thousands of photographs can accomplish. Matt is also a creative storyteller which adds depth and emotion to his wonderful photos. I look forward to seeing what he does with his weekly Tuesday feature.
I am xxSJC, the other founding member of the StuckinPlastic collective. What do I add to this accomplished mix? As a 30 year veteran of selling art (not only my own fine art photographs, but my husbands work) I know what it is like on the front lines of trying to monetize your creative endeavors. I am also the resident cat wrangler and often the voice of the collective on various social media platforms. As one of the founders of BrickCentral (a LEGO only feature group) on Instagram I also know a thing or two about building community and that is one more of our goals here at StuckinPlastic.
As you can see there is a lot of knowledge and talent in this group and we are here to share it with you. We have been posting to this blog for over a year on a nearly daily basis; there is a lot of wonderful advice, inspiration, encouragement and of course great photography on those pages ready to be (re)discovered. I hope you will take the time to explore and see what we have to offer.
If you have any questions you want answered, let us know. We are here to help.
~ xxSJC
The last piece of the puzzle is YOU; feature friday is all about you. If you are interested in adding your voice to the mix then please get involved. You can read Me2’s post on the simple guide lines for adding your very important voice to our community.
The header image is the first “map” that Me2 created and we implemented. It is how we achieved our first exhibition, grew our community and clarified our vision. We are currently working on Phase II. Who knows where we will end up next, but I am sure it will be interesting.
If you are not following me on Twitter you should be! It’s the best place to keep up on all we have to offer as well as interact with me any time.
Love it
