A few years ago, I started a series of photographs following the adventures of Patsy, a medieval squire who has somehow managed to find himself on a surprising number of unfortunate travels. He always seems to get a lot of love whenever I post a new chapter of his story. Alongside that support, there also tends to be a fair amount of concern for his wellbeing.
When I put together the first volume of Patsy’s adventures, I made the entirely arbitrary decision that each volume would contain eight chapters. I have no idea why. It seemed sensible at the time. And when Shelly has asked whether we were due another Patsy update, I had to explain that I wasn’t quite there yet. Then we waited. And waited a bit more. In fact, it’s been a few years, sorry everyone.
But at long last, I finally have enough photographs for the next instalment. So it’s time to continue Patsy’s adventures…
Chapter 9
Patsy is on the road again.

As Patsy is always in my camera bag I was able to get this photo in the Andorran Pyrennes. I enjoyed how small Patsy was against the mountains and the white of the snow was perfect to get the minifigure to stand out in such a vast landscape.
Chapter 10
Leaving the snows of winter and the mountains behind, Patsy continues on as he travels into the desert.
No behind the scenes on this one, but this is another Patsy holiday snap. This time the landscape is in an old volcano in Lanzarote. The foreground is one side of the crater and the background the other.
Chapter 11
Are the heat and desolation of the desert too much for Patsy?

In the dry desert landscapes of the Canary Islands you get the contrast of these dark volcanic rocks against the sand for striking features in the photos. I love working the angles to create frames within the scene for Patsy to walk through.
Chapter 12
Patsy trudges on, with the desert behind things have gotten spooky as the walls close.

Closer to home with this photo, this is a huge fallen tree in a park near where I live. Due to the size of this gap in the trunk I was able to pretend Patsy was creeping through a spooky canyon. This was actually one of my first attempts at using my smoke machine in conjunction with the LED panel, it made for a very eerie result.
Chapter 13
With the brightness of the sun shining through the mists, there are still pleasant moments even on the longest journey.

I do enjoy a wall with some moss on it when it comes to photographing Lego minifigures. For Patsy it scales so well and feels somewhere between the foothills of a mountain pass or some ancient ruins. This one was on a wintery day, which in the UK means grey flat light, as a result I had to make my own sunlight just out of shot.
Chapter 14
But as Patsy continues onwards, the sun begins to set as the terrain becomes tougher.

Slightly warmer conditions for this photograph. I’ve said manytimes rock pools and surrounding areas are otherworldly when you get close up. I have a special liking for dried out rock pools as well. They’re perfect for Patsy to check through. Just check were you are sitting when taking the photo, not all the pools are dried out.
Chapter 15
As night falls, Patsy continues through the dark and foreboding landscape.

Everyone knows that feeling, you setup your toys and camera and the wind comes along with a different idea. I suppose I can’t blame Patsy to much with the amount of walking that takes place in these photos. This one was another setup within some volcanic rocks, but this time at dusk and with a backlight and some Atmosphere Aerosol to create the mood.
Chapter 16
Lost in a decaying forest, will Patsy ever find the way out of this?

Another photo from the Canary Islands, but slightly different in results. If it’s not sandy desert landscapes in that part of the world it’s rugged badlands. When I was hiking in one such area I found these dired out plants that were perfect as a haunted woodland for Patsy to get lost in.
I was quite surprised putting this post together with how much actual travelling Patsy does. It surprised me to see all the places I’ve taken this particular minifigure.
And for good or bad I’m happy to say the trails and tribulations of Patsy will not end here. We’ll have to see if Patsy can make it out of the haunted woods and what future adventures await.
