Love autos and LEGO? Well there’s something new for you with the release of six new Speed Champions kits—all in the new 8-stud wide platform. In this review I present an overview of each build with a few of my favorite construction features noted, some size comparisons between the new 8-stud wide and previous 6-stud wide platforms, and then add some fun photos.
Let’s build!
These are presented in order of their model numbers, but I will admit to saving the Toyota for last, as I’ve driven Toyotas for many years. That said, the build on the GT is stellar and the colors really pop, so the GT was my favorite build from the new LEGO 2021 Speed Champions sets.

Window to the engine. Half built. “Can you hurry this up?” Plenty of stickers. Yellow on grey looks clean. Side detail. New low-profile wheels/tires. Printed windscreen (thankfully!) Rear end detail. Baby got back… Red accents give it a pop. Let’s race!
Vintage ‘Vette t-shirt under that jacket. Clear stickers – sticker tips below. Printed spoke ‘wheels.’ Sticker with GM Licensing hologram. Low and not slow, let’s roll.

Did I mention stickers? MOPARRRRR! Alternating SNOT bricks. A tall, thin drink. Printed canopy. That’s a tiny big block. Just waiting for the green light. A tall, thin drink.
Hey, this sticker is upside-down! Pay attention. Interlocking SNOT techniques. Minifig has a two-sided head. Printed racer’s jacket. Love the grille. Printed wheel covers. Can you MOPAR like I can? Love the purple. Dual-mufflers peek out.
76905 Ford GT Heritage Edition and Bronco R
Dig my vintage racing suit! The smell of high-octane success. The blocky heart of the beast. Printed headlight tiles. My favorite step of the GT build with three different planes coming together. Seee ya!
Ford licensing sticker with hologram and a small scratcher game available via the QR code. Love the little Sparco details on her suit. It’s SNOT a bad way to build. Front end is beginning to take shape. Dashboard in place. Those are some big tires. “60s, anyone?” Roll cage coming together Spares for days. It is a big truck… And it’s all mine! Let’s braaaaaap!
Sticker Champions…
These kits have a lot of stickers, which is understandable to keep the price down while remaining relatively accurate to their real-world vehicles. Stickers can be a bit of a pain to apply, so here is my approach, which is generally successful. I’m just a little fussy when it comes to getting these placed—they don’t have to be “PERFECTLY PERFECT,” just reasonably so. Take your time applying stickers and hopefully you can get them on straight, level and without blemish.
Bend the backing paper away from the sticker, then use a tool to lift the sticker off the sheet. I use a painter’s palette knife, but an Xacto knife will work, too. Dip part (or all) of the sticker in water, I add a spritz of window cleaner. This gives you a chance at repositioning the sticker. Carefully align the sticker. Stick one corner/edge then give it a look before committing to the rest. With a paper towel or soft cloth, push the water out from under the sticker and dry it. There—almost perfectly applied stickers!
8-stud vs. 6-stud widths
The new 8-stud wide platforms give much more opportunity for scale details, side-by-side minifig seating and overall accuracy. Here’s a look at three of these cars next to comparable 6-stud versions.
Corvette vs. Corvette:
76903 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R Race Car (new) next to 75870 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (retired).

76905 Ford GT Heritage Edition (new) next to 75881 1966 Ford GT40 (retired).
Mopar vs. Mopar
