@krash_override, @Lizzybelle9, and myself will be hosting the 2017 Stuck in Plastic US meet-up in San Francisco but we can’t decide on the best weekend. We’ve come up with three good possibilities and now it’s your turn to let us know which one works best for you.
If you’re not familiar with these toy photography meet-ups, they are casual affairs designed to explore our host city, meet fellow toy photographers, learn new photography techniques and foster lasting friendships. The US events are spread over several days to allow attendees to arrive, acclimate, and have plenty of time with their fellow toy photographers. At all our past events (both Europe and US) toy photographers have arrived as strangers but left as friends.
In 2015 we gathered in the desert near Las Vegas, NV and in 2016 we hung out near Seattle, WA. At the end of our 2016 gathering, San Francisco was at the top of everyone’s list of cities to visit for a 2017 meet-up. Dennis, Melissa and I have been working since June planning which picturesque photography locations we want to take you to; these include the Albany Bulb, Golden Gate Park, Sutra Baths and Fort Baker to name a few. Besides the opportunity for excellent photography, there will be plenty of time to socialize, both structured and unstructured (more on that later!).
If this sounds like a fun way to spend a weekend then please fill out the survey below and let us know which weekend works best for you.
We will announce the final date in January of 2017 to give everyone plenty of time to arrange vacations and travel.
These events are always tons of fun, life changing even, so we hope to see as many of our friends in San Francisco for our 2017 US Edition of the Stuck in Plastic Toy Safari !
Sincerely your US Toy Safari Team,
~ Shelly, Melissa and Dennis.
I think that I am going to try to come to this US toy safari. San Francisco is one of the US cities I would love to visit. It should be the perfect occasion. No preference for the weekend, though.
Ballou34 — I hope you can make it. It is without a doubt one of the most picturesque cities in California! And we have some “hidden gems” on the agenda that most people outside of California won’t know about (alongside other well known San Francisco landmarks).
That’s one thing I love with those toy safaris. People are exited to share with you the best places in their city.
I have looked at the plane prices (I live in France) and it should be feasible. As soon as the dates are confirmed, I am buying my plane tickets.
Like Ballou34, I’m very excited about this. I’d love to go back to San Francisco, which was the first North American I visited but also the one I stayed the shortest time. However I’m afraid that despite my work not getting in the way like last year, this year it might be more tricky financially to afford a flight across the Atlantic. Fingers crossed!
I would love to join this! And I believe I can if it falls on that 5/11-5/14 period. Fingers crossed!!
I vote for May 11.
Since I go to San Francisco 2 to 3 times a year, I might as well make this one my first one. Just as long as it can be that first May date.
Let’s do this!!!
Thanks for organizing! Really looking forward to meeting some new faces, photographing in new locations, stealing, i mean, borrowing everyone’s toys, heheh, and hanging out with my beloved toy meet-up old timers!
Quick question, isn’t there a mistake with the dates?
Two of your weekends are from Friday to Monday, except the May 11-14th (Thursday to Sunday).
There is no mistake. Two of the “weekends” are Friday through Monday. One of those Mondays is a US holiday. The first weekend May 11th – 14th is very consciously a Thursday through Sunday spread. We will formally start on Thursday evening giving people time to arrive. For the early birds we will have a Thursday afternoon location for photography. On Sunday I fully expect people to begin drifting away by mid morning depending on their travel plans. But we will options for those staying the full day.
Good to know. I did not know that.
