The Origins of Oblivious Olive
Recently, I finished the Summer Creativity Workshop with Shelly Corbett, where we were each challenged to create a final project consisting of a six-image presentation. It was a great learning experience watching our projects evolve over the course of the summer. We each picked a subject area from a pre-selected list and began the journey of group brainstorming and collaborative whiteboarding to develop ideas that fit into the constraints we were given. I picked Street Photography, and the group gave me so many wonderful ideas to think about that it was hard to choose.
The feedback that I received in each session from Shelly and the group was invaluable and kept me moving forward. Working with a group of talented and creative photographers in such a warm and supportive environment gave me the creative spark I needed to get this project done and also inspired me to keep going with new follow-on ideas after it was complete. I think we all found out that helping others with their projects also helped us learn and grow as photographers.
My Street Photography soon became a fun group of images about my main character, Olive, as she “hit the street” and moved throughout her day. For my final presentation, I chose to add a little poetry that I hope will make you smile. If you love toy photography and need a creative push, you will love this workshop. Enjoy!
